2012 Missouri Tigers Football Preview

Preview and predictions for 2013 Missouri Tigers Football

2011 SEC Record: (Big 12 last season) – Overall 8-5

Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense, 2 special teams

The Good: The Tiger secondary returns seven players with starting experience. Defensive ends Brad Madison and Sheldon Richardson should be playing on Sunday, and if they can rebound from off season should surgery, they will be a force.

The Bad: QB James Franklin is a playmaker and will surprise a lot of the skeptical SEC fans about Missouri’s chances at success….IF he can rebound from an injury to his throwing shoulder. Their top returning rusher, Henry Josey, is out after surgery to both knees, and his replacement, Kendial Lawrence, who was the starter before a broken fibula sidelined him in 2011, did not exactly burn up the yards in his absence.

The Ugly: Moving to the SEC will be a wake up call, especially to a team who was 4-4 in the Big 12 last season. If they have some injuries to key people, just like last year, this will be a long, and painful inaugural season in the SEC.

The Schedule: The Tigers will get accustomed to life in the SEC early as they get division foes Georgia and South Carolina in September. The UGA game is at home, and the Dawgs will be dealing with some suspensions. Throw in a visit from Arizona State, and Missouri will have an action packed first month. Other than Alabama, and a trip to Florida, the rest of the games look winnable so this might be a good start in their new conference.

What will happen: Missouri will be competitive and surprise some folks, especially if they can get Franklin back and the defense stays away from the injury bug. A split with UGA and South Carolina might keep them near the top of the division, but that won’t be easy. They won’t win the East, but they might scare some people into thinking they are not as much of a pushover as expected.

Bowl Game: Good thing they go to Gainesville to play the Gators since they will be acclimated to the whole Gator motif when they get to Jacksonville.

2012 Prediction: 4th in the SEC East.
