Walter Payton, no question. Anyone who had the luck to watch him play his heart out every single play, whether or not he touched the ball (unlike Jim Brown and about 99% of other football players) already knows that nobody beats Walter in the category of "best football player ever."

He was not the best running back, or fullback, or blocker, or receiver, or QB, or decoy, or punter (even ho he did all those things). He was just the best football player ever.
