Tim Tebow -- 2008 Heisman Trophy?

by Paul Lyboult
(Syracuse, NY)

Darren McFadden, Colt Brennan, and Chase Daniel.

All three of these players were Heisman finalists & potential NFL stars of the future. What else do they have in common?

They finished behind Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow, who went on to win the 2007 Heisman Trophy.

Tebow came on strong in 2007 throwing for 32 touchdowns and rushing for 23 more as he became the first sophomore to win the award. He has the
running skills of a Mike Vick and the passing skills similar to 2005 NFL top draft choice Alex Smith (also another former Meyer-tutored quarterback).

As 2008 approaches the anticipation for a Tebow repeat Heisman Trophy continues to grow. He could go down as one of college football's greatest players of all time if this type of play continues.

With two years left to go assuming he doesn't leave college early, Tebow still has time to
master the Florida Offense & conquer the SEC.

There is no question in my mind that this past season is not necessarily the best Tebow has to
offer.

Not since Maurice Clarett finished his incredible freshman season at Ohio State have I seen a player receive so much hype.

While his NFL future is somewhat murky at this point (I see him nothing more than a 3rd round developmental selection), his college future is
already set. Florida will return in 2008 much like it left 2007.

The Gators will be guided by the arms and legs of Tim Tebow, who just might be the great college quarterback that all those who follow are compared to.

Tebow's Numbers Among Best of Heisman Winners
by: Tex/1st-N-Goal

Tim Tebow's stats helped this talented sophomore win the most coveted award in college football, the Heisman Trophy.

A closer look at his numbers show not only were they outstanding in 2007, but rank among the elite of other winners, nationally and from the SEC.

Let's look at them:

*Rushing: 895 yards, 26th of Winners; 3rd in the SEC.

*Passing: 3286 yards, 2nd and 1st, respectively.

*Total Offense: 4181 yards, 3rd and 1st, respectively.

*Scoring: 138 points, tied for 7th and 1st, respectively.

*TDR (touchdowns rushing/passing): 55 TDR, 1st and 1st. respectively.

Intersted in where other SEC Heisman Trophy winners' stats compare to the the past winners of the award?

I plan on a future colum on my SEC Stats Site if there's enough interest...if so, go by and leave me a message on the form.

And we'll see how Frank Sinkwhich stats compared to Herschel walker's...or how about Danny Wuerffel total compared to that of the "Ball Coach."

And, yes Gamecock fans, just for you, I will list George Rodgers' numbers as well.

tim tebow can win the heisman in 2008 but see the thing is the coachs are not going to let it happan yes it would be a great thing to happen if you look at the picture that he took with coach myer the gator coach was realy not happy for tim it was like a fake to me that made me mad because youre not happy that your QB just won the heisman and on top of the first sophmore at that I was so happy when he won the award I went crazy so thats why tim tebow will not win the heisman in 2008 can he do it yes will myer let him be backtoback heismans NO why I really dont know why. tim is such a good player but they are not going to iet him do it one more time and they will use him in 2008 but not like they should so that he could win it one more time all I have to say is I hope IM not right but I have a feeling that I am. go gators and I hope they let him do it one more time.

Greatest Football Player of all time
by: Anonymous

Tim Tebow has what it takes. He is totally sincere and sold out first to God and second to
his team the Florida Gators. He led his team in a triumphant win for the Sec Championship over then #1 Alabama. And he's going to lead them to the National Championship over Oklahoma. He deserves no less than to win the Heisman again this year.

2008 Heisman Voting Results
by: Mo Johnson

It was an extremely close vote between the top 3. Tebow actually got more first place votes than anyone, but too many 3rd place votes as well. Bradford dominated the second place ballots and that put him over the top.

Also, voters in the southwest seem to have shunned Tebow as he did relatively poorly there.

Here are the results:

1. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma -- 1,726

2. Colt McCoy, Texas -- 1,640

3. Tim Tebow, Florida -- 1,575

This will fire up Tebow and the Gators for their BCS Championship game against Bradford and the Sooners.
