The Biggest Sports In The SEC

Known throughout the US, the SouthEastern Conference (SEC) is a massive organization of different types of college sports. The organization brings together 14 schools competing in almost every popular sport in college athletics, with its own television network that inspires unrivaled regional pride. Here are the biggest sports featured in the SouthEastern Conference.

Football

Football is arguably America’s most popular sport, with Vwin offering fans the chance to wager on the game, while bongdaso is one of the biggest sites for the Vietnamese bettors and keeps them updated with the latest news on games. In the SouthEastern Conference, twelve schools placed a member in the All-SEC coaches’ first team this month, with Alabama and Georgia ranking as the first two teams.

SEC members have won 43 championships in the NCAA, with 14 teams competing in the conference divided into SEC east and SEC west. Schools featured in the SEC East include Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Florida. The SEC West also features seven schools, including Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas A&M, MS State, LSU, and Auburn. Unfortunately, only men’s teams are featured in this sport.

Basketball

With 21 championship trophies won by SEC members, basketball is among the biggest sports in the conference. The competition is held as a single-elimination tournament including all 14 league schools. The conference’s seeding is based on the regular-season records and the winner automatically gets the conference’s bid to the NCAA basketball tournament. However, the conference’s official championship is given to the best team based on the regular-season record.

Indoor Track

Since the SEC started over 80 years ago, its members have won 41 national championship trophies. The event welcomes 13 men’s teams and all 14 women's schools to compete, with the Arkansas Razorback winning both titles this year.

Fayetteville’s Randal Tyson Indoor Track hosted this year’s competitions, which gave fans several standout performances from different athletes. Athing Mu from Texas A&M led the way by registering a new U20 world record in the 800m by registering 1:58.40. LSU’s JuVaughn Harrison took the title for the men’s long jump with his effort of 8.33m, while Tennessee’s Jeolla Lloyd clocked 7.15 seconds in the Women’s 60m.

Outdoor Track

Like the Indoor track, the outdoor track also features 13 men’s teams and 14 female schools in the conference. This year, Arkansas emerged victorious in the 2021 SEC women’s and Men’s outdoor track championships, making it the 20th title for the men’s team and 9th for the women's team.

The 2022 SEC outdoor track & field championships will be hosted by the University of Mississippi at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex, starting from 12th to 14th May 2022. This facility was built in 2003 and hosted the SEC Outdoor Championships in 2004.
