SEC vs Big Ten 2015-2016 Bowl Season

By: Kory Kinslow

This year, in bowl games, the Big ten went 5-5. They finished with six ten win teams this season. The SEC won a historic 8 bowl games (plus the National Championship game), while only losing two.

Of course Alabama won the National Championship -- again. The SEC has now won 8 of the last 9 NC's. But, before that there was Alabama's shutout over the Big Ten's Michigan State. They dominated to the tune of a 38-0 win. The SEC won the head to head match-ups 3-1. Michigan trounced Florida in the only head to head Big Ten victory over an SEC school in the 2015-2016 Bowl and Playoff schedule.

In comparison to this year's bowl schedule, in the 2014-2015 bowl season, the Big Ten was 5-5, just as in 2015-2016. They did, however, win the National Championship and beat Alabama in the head to head match-up in the playoff with Ohio State eventually winning it all. The SEC was 7-5 in the same season. The match-up was an even 2-2 in head to head competition in the 2014-2015 season.

These two conferences are often compared to one another. One being in the North, the other in the South could be one reason. I suppose another is the playing style and the big named head coaches. These conferences have very traditional rivalries contained in the conferences and continue to dominate the landscape of college football. These conferences continue to produce highly regarded prospects to the NFL draft, so roots run deep throughout the football. There is no doubt that these two conferences will be compared to one another for years to come!
