View from the outfield bleachers…..

Vanderbilt is for real… Repeat Vanderbilt is for real… Commodores returned home from last weeks trip to San Diego and beat #15 Stanford two out of three games. The Dores moved up to #2 in the new ESPN.com top 25 poll right behind #1 Florida. The pitching staff is legit and the offense has been playing really well. They have played the toughest schedule of the conference teams to start the season. The Dores are going to be in the mix for SEC leaders all season.

Home field is CRUCIAL!!! Even with the lower ranked teams right now. Tennessee has played six home games and won five of them to start the season. Kentucky returned home after losing all three on road trip last week and won three out of four games. Alabama won fout straight at home to start season and lost all three on road trip last weekend. Miss State has won seven out of eight home games to start season. Even the worse team right now, Georgia won two out of four home games for a split last week. Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU and Ole Miss are all undefeated at home. Teams will need to bring their “A” games with them when they hit the road for conference play this season. No wins will be easy on the road in SEC.

Ole Miss is my darkhorse right now in the SEC race. They have won all five home games to start the season and then went to Houston to face the Cougars and won two out of three there last weekend. They are off to a great start and have some solid pitching with Matt Crouse, Trent Rothlin and Matt Tracy. They just may well be the team to push Arkansas for the title of SEC West champion this season instead of Auburn.
