Origins of UT Orange

by Bruce McCamish
(Knoxville, Tn.)

I was a Forestry Major at UTK back in the 80's and a native Knoxvillian. After some minor research I found the the Hawksbill Daisy, indigenous to our region, once grew prolifically on The Hill. It grows in slightly varying shades from yellows to palor orange. I lived many years in South Knox County and it grew there as well. I hope this provides some insight to our unique shade of Big Orange!
