Ollie is right. The West is the way to go. Texas AM, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and throw Clemson in the East. Think of the rivalry revival.

OK vs AR, AR vs TX AM and icing on the cake, SC vs Clemson as an inter-conference-division game. East - SC, Clemson, FL, GA, TN, Auburn, Vandy, Kentucky. West - LSU, AR, MS, Ole Mis, OU, OSU, TX AM, AL. I guess AL would have to wind up in the East, though, since the state would succeed without an annual contest.

A 9 game conference schedule would be brutal, since teams like FL would still schedule FSU, leaving only two patsies to start the season.
