Georgia vs Florida 2011 Preview

by Kavin Caruso
(GA )

The Georgia Bulldogs will be facing the Florida Gators this Saturday on nationally televised game. Georgia is on a 5 game winning streak and hoping to reach 6 by Saturday evening. Last time Georgia beat Florida was in 2007. This year’s Georgia Bulldogs team started the year at 0-2, and then reeled on 5 straight victories. The Bulldogs are tied in 1st place in the SEC East division with South Carolina Gamecocks. Georgia is 5-2, 4-1 in conference play.

Malcolm Mitchell who is the freshman receiver and middle linebacker Alec Ogletree are expected to be back from injuries. Both missed some significant amount of playing time. Georgia will have freshman running back Isaiah Crowell who has been playing very well this season. Aaron Murray will try to continue to perform well. Aaron Murray hopes to have ZERO interceptions in this week’s game. Georgia will have two players that will be suspended for half a game. Safety Shawn Williams and linebacker Kwame Geathers will be suspended for the 1st half of the game. Both got suspended for flagrant foul two weeks ago against Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs must be Florida if they want to stay in the race to win the SEC East division. They have come a long way since September to be in 1st place and they cannot afford to lose it. South Carolina will be facing Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday. Georgia is hoping for an upset in Knoxville if the Bulldogs can pull away with a win against Florida. Mark Richt has only beaten Florida two times (2004, 2007). Mark Richt has come close in beating Florida a few times, including last year’s loss in overtime.

This game is known as “World’s Largest Cocktail Party”. Let’s hope Georgia has a good game and will win without making costly mistakes like they did last year. Georgia hasn’t won the SEC East division since 2005, the same year they beat LSU in the SEC Championship.

South Carolina won’t have running back Marcus Lattimore for the rest of the year. South Carolina will not be the same without Marcus, Georgia needs to take advantage of it. I don’t think South Carolina will win very many games in the next few weeks. Their offense was built around Marcus Lattimore and he was the integral of the offense. Georgia’s running back Isaiah Crowell will only get better and stronger as the season goes along.
