Georgia beats Buffalo, What’s next?

by Kavin Caruso
(Atlanta, GA)

Georgia Bulldogs beat Buffalo Bulls 45-23 on Saturday. Georgia is now 1-0, will travel to Columbia Missouri to face Missouri Tigers next Saturday. Something wasn’t right today. Shouldn’t the Bulldogs score like 56 points and only give up 13 points? I find this hard to believe that the Bulls of Buffalo even got 23 points today. Maybe next week the Bulldogs will be more focus in Missouri. One good thing came out of this game was, they won instead of a loss. Remember last season, the Bulldogs loss to Boise State at the Georgia Dome, then lose a heartbreaker to South Carolina the following week before winning 10 in a row.

Georgia got on the board first on their first possession of the year. Todd Gurley scored on a 10 yard rushing touchdown to make it 7-0. Buffalo Bulls then got a touchdown on their second possession. Alex Zordich threw a 16 yard touchdown pass to Alex Neutz. Buffalo missed the extra point, Georgia leads 7-6. Then the exciting thing happened, Todd Gurley ran a 100 yard touchdown run, to make it 14-6. Todd Gurley ran a 100 yard kickoff return touchdown. Let’s hope Todd Gurley does that plenty of times this year.

In the 2nd quarter, Georgia tacked on a Marshall Morgan’s 35 yard field goal to make it a 17-6 lead. Then later in the quarter, Aaron Murray threw a 63 yard touchdown pass to Tavarres King, Georgia leads 24-6. Buffalo Bulls scored the on their next two possessions. Branden Oliver of Buffalo scored a 2 yard touchdown run, then later in the quarter; kicker Patrick Clarke kicked an 18 yard field goal. Georgia leads 24-16.

In the 3rd quarter, Georgia got a quick touchdown. Aaron Murray threw a 38 yard touchdown pass to Rantavious Wooten. Georgia leads 31-16, things are looking okay now after that touchdown pass. In the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs got another touchdown. Aaron Murray threw a 12 yard touchdown pass to Michael Bennett; Georgia now leads 38-16. Later in the quarter, Todd Gurley scored a 55 yard touchdown run; Georgia now leads 45-16. Buffalo Bulls then got a touchdown late in the game. On what was their last possession of the game, Buffalo got a rushing touchdown by quarterback Alex Zordich. He scored on a 2 yard run to the end zone. Georgia now leads 45-23. Georgia ran out the clock on their final possession to secure the win, 45-23.

What will happen next week? Will Georgia struggle on the road next week? We will see what happens after next Saturday night. Some of the players were missing today because of injuries and suspensions. Hopefully next week, Georgia will have most of their top players playing.
