Best LSU Team?
by: Dennis Berry

The Tigers have fielded many great teams.

The first team that comes to mind would be the 1980-1981 Tigers. That team went 31-5 during the season including going 17-1 in the SEC. They were SEC regular season champions and went on to the Final Four. That team was lead by Howard Carter who averaged 16 points a game and Durand Macklin 15.9 points. It was Dale Brown's first Final Four team.

The 1990-1991 Tigers may have been one Dale Brown's best. They were also SEC Champions after going 20-10 and 13-5 in the SEC. It featured Shaquille O'Neal 27.6 points, 14.7 rebounds and Vernel Singleton 15.2 points a game. That team would be upset in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Connecticut.

The 2006 team coached by John Brady went 27-9 and 14-2 in the SEC. They were SEC Champions and also advanced to the Final Four that season. That team feature Tasmin Mitchell, Darrel Mitchell, Tryus Thomas, and Glen Davis. That team will always hold a special place in LSU fans heart after the Final Four run following the events of Hurricane Katrina.

There have been other great teams. The 1935 Tigers claim the 1935 National Title. The 1952-1953 Tigers won the SEC and made the Final Four. The 1985-1986 Tigers made the Final Four as an 11 seed, beating 1 seed Kentucky in the regional finals.
