All-Time Bowl Record -- Consistent Numbers

by Jeffrey

When calculating conference numbers, you are only counting games when teams are a member of a conference. To calculate bowls, you are counting a total of the current membership.

Teams representing the SEC are 184-147-9 in bowls:

Alabama (29-21-2)--0.577
Arkansas (2-7-0)--0.222
Auburn (19-13-2)--0.588
Florida (16-19-0)--0.457
Georgia (24-16-3)--0.593
Georgia Tech (10-5-0)--0.667
Kentucky (7-5-0)--0.583
LSU (20-18-1)--0.526
Mississippi (19-12-0)--0.613
Mississippi St. (7-6-0)--0.538
South Carolina (4-1-0)--0.800
Tennessee (25-22-0)--0.532
Tulane (1-1-0)--0.500
Vanderbilt (1-1-1)--0.500

The current membership total up to 184-164-13, the number you're giving.

Alabama (31-21-3)--0.591
Arkansas (11-22-3)--0.347
Auburn (19-13-2)--0.588
Florida (16-19-0)--0.457
Georgia (24-16-3)--0.593
Kentucky (7-5-0)--0.583
LSU (20-18-1)--0.526
Mississippi (19-12-0)--0.613
Mississippi St. (7-6-0)--0.538
South Carolina (4-9-0)--0.308
Tennessee (25-22-0)--0.532
Vanderbilt (1-1-1)--0.500

If you want to argue that conference numbers make sense historically, you should follow that pattern here.

Editor's Note Thanks Jeffrey for the comment. Good stuff. You are right that we have not been using the same standard on every page. This site is a work in progress -- always being updated. So, we basically built pages as we found information -- we have not had an overall plan for what type of numbers to include and which not to include. I think this summer we may overhaul all the pages and use the same standard. Of course, then some would argue we are ignoring other ways to compare the conferences.

Anyway, thanks again for the info. You have proven, again, that we are not biased, as the new all-time Bowl numbers you bring to the table are actually more favorable to the SEC.

Yes, the other numbers are favorable to the SEC. It caught me off guard because the number of wins were the same, but it added 20 losses. However, they were correct.

If you want bowl records for all conferences, or if you was any other records, let me know. I've got a lot of experience at running these numbers and I have plenty of resources.

Jeff, Thanks for the offer. I'll gladly take you up on it. I would love to have someone scrub the many pages on this site that have football stats on them. I'm sure some could be presented more consistently.

If you would like to help, we'd love to have you.

Use the Contact Us form and send me your e-mail. Thanks again.
