2008 College Sports Revenue by Conference

by Admin

Thanks to a visitor for passing on the following info about total (gross) revenue by conference in 2008 as reported at NCAABBS.

You can see that in 2008, the Big Ten just edged out the SEC for the title of top overall college sports revenue conference.

Of course this wouldn't include the most recent big deal with ESPN the SEC signed, so, not sure the 2009 numbers. Plenty of money to go around though.

Missing revenue per school
by: webvyger

Unless I missed the break down, this data seems to only focus on total conference revenue rather than what is important to the individual members and actual strength of the conference, which is the average revenue per member. For an accurate portrayal, the total revenue should be divided by the conference membership. This scenario would reflect that the averaged total revenue per member is much higher in the B1G conference than the SEC or other power conferences.
